June 20 is World Refugee Day. Pope Francis encourages all of us to adopt a shared response to the global refugee situation that may be articulated in the four words:
Welcome, Protect, Promote, Integrate
Pope Francis’ words for migrants, refugees and internally displaced people have been taken up by CJI’s partners the Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) and Entreculturas in a new campaign for refugee education. Click on this link to see more: 4 Words to Open the World
Today Canadian Jesuits International is also encouraging everyone to WELCOME, PROTECT, PROMOTE, and INTEGRATE refugees and displaced people, particularly those in and from Colombia and Syria.
In Colombia, CJI supports a JRS project that accompanies some of the 7 million people who have been forcibly displaced by 5 decades of armed conflict. This includes livelihood support for displaced civilians through small production initiatives, skills training, community gardens for food security and environmental protection. To support this project in Colombia, please
In Syria, and in surrounding countries where Syrian civilians have fled, CJI supports several education, livelihood and health projects for refugees. In Aleppo, Syria, for example, JRS is providing health and psychosocial services to individuals and families. They include a pharmacy, clinics for consultations and referrals for surgery and orthotics. To support this project in Syria, please
