The Society of Jesus

The mission of Canadian Jesuit International is intimately connected with the mission of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) namely to serve faith and promote the justice of God's kingdom, in dialogue with cultures and religion.

St. Ignatius and the early companions set the example early on when they responded to the crisis of homelessness and poverty in Rome in 1538. They collected the homeless in the streets and brought them to their home, they washed their guests and gave them food, often they offered their own beds to the sick and weak. They wanted to live with and serve the poor. Ignatius was never known to send Jesuits on mission without instructing them to also to give alms, visit hospitals and prisons and to assist people in need. No task, however spiritual, was judged complete unless it included practical charitable work.

Ours is a service of faith and of the radical implications of faith in our world.
