CJI Sends $10,000 to aid Haiti Relief Effort

Canadian Jesuits International (CJI) has responded to the Haiti earthquake by making an immediate donation of $10,000, while at the same time launching an appeal to its donors and friends for their support in the wake of the devastating earthquake.

CJI has sent the funds to the Jesuit Refugee Service in the Dominican Republic which along with the Jesuit communities in Haiti, have mounted a relief effort in Haiti. Emergency supplies have been brought by land from the Dominican Republic to Haiti and teams of Jesuits and lay collaborators are working in different areas to offer assistance to the victims.

Friends of the Jesuits in Canada have responded with generosity and have joined the international community to support the people in Haiti. The response has come from all quarters with donations from all across the country as well as internationally. We were touched to receive donations even from Jesuits and projects in Africa who have contributed generously to the Haiti relief effort. This is a testament to the interconnectedness of our global community and an encouragement to us all.

Jesuits from Canada, Dominican Republic and Haiti are on the ground helping with the relief effort. From them, we continue to receive news of hope and solidarity from the people of Haiti even amidst this most difficult time. It is their stories and your support that ring true in the Haitian motto "L'Union Fait La Force" meaning "Union makes strength".
