Response to Burma Emergency
Canadian Jesuits International sends $10,000 in response to Burma emergency

CJI has sent $10,000 to local partners in Burma to provide emergency relief to the survivors and to restore the homes, roads, schools and hospitals that have been damaged or destroyed by the cyclone. Our partners are particularly caring for the children and for the elderly, who are most vulnerable in a crisis like this.

According to some reports, the number of dead and homeless people in Myanmar now exceeds the numbers of those who were killed and injured by the tsunamis that devastated a number of Asian countries in 2004. Five states in the country have been declared as disaster zones, and 95% of the buildings in the cyclone’s path have been destroyed. The survivors are facing desperate and appalling conditions, and are still in urgent need of food, water, shelter, sanitation and medical assistance.

If you would like to make a donation towards the work in Burma, you can do it on our website at www.canadianjesuitsinternational.ca or call us at (416)962-4500. You can also make a donation through CanadaHelps.

Look out for an interview with one of our local partners about our work in The Catholic Register.
