St Anne's Church and Community Centre
Kingston, Jamaica

Fr Peter McIsaac SJ

The parish and community centre are located in one of Kingston's poorest areas characterised by unemployment and social unrest. Many programmes focus on youth. Last year, the parish ran day care facilities for 150 infants, a primary school for 550 students and a high school for 200 students. It also offered a summer bible camp for 100 children.

The community centre offered school remedial help and a counselling programme for traumatized high school students. Other initiatives included a sewing project, a dance programme, and a soccer club. "Start up" funding for unemployed people and distribution of food and clothes were undertaken.

A Social Concerns Group organised workshops on issues like gender, employment, health, and parenting.
