African Jesuit Aids Network (AJAN)
Nairobi, Kenya

Fr Michael Czerny, SJ

AJAN assists Jesuits and those working with them to respond to HIV/AIDS in 22 countries of sub-Saharan Africa. Beneficiaries are people at risk, people infected with HIV, those who are sick with AIDS, their families, and those who serve them in 125 Jesuit initiatives.

There is an emphasis on accompanying people who suffer and those caring for them, as well as sensitivity to local culture and collaboration, especially within the Church. Last year, activities included support for a secondary school for AIDS-affected youngsters in Nairobi, and the publication of books about HIV/AIDS in English, French, and Portuguese
