This Christmas we invite you to join Canadian Jesuits International in leading with human kindness! CJI’s 2015 Christmas Appeal is now available and may be downloaded in PDF format from here.
In his recent encyclical Laudato Si’, Pope Francis calls us to hear “both the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor” (LS 49). He challenges us to turn the tragedy of mass poverty and environmental degradation into a “personal suffering” (LS 19).
You can respond to this call by reaching out with “cords of human kindness” to to all those who are victims of war, poverty and injustice and by caring for the Earth, “our common home”:
- In Jamaica, CJI assists the Jesuits at St Anne’s parish as they work with young people living in a neighbourhood plagued by unemployment, poverty and violence.
- In Lebanon, Jordan and Syria, CJI supports the Jesuit Refugee Service, which is providing humanitarian assistance and education to thousands of displaced Syrians, while promoting peace and tolerance.
- In Nepal, CJI continues to assist the rehabilitation efforts of the Nepal Jesuits following the devastating earthquakes in April and May.
- In Zambia, CJI supports Kasisi Agricultural Training Centre which is helping small-scale subsistence farmers with sustainable organic methods of production to increase their yields.
These and many other initiatives in Africa, Asia and Latin America have been made possible thanks to your support.
This Christmas, we ask you to renew your support. Let us respond to Pope Francis’s call for social and ecological justice by practising “communitarian salvation” (LS 149). As Francis says, our generous response is also “part of our spirituality, which is an exercise of charity and, as such, matures and sanctifies us” (LS 232).
