This winter newsletter is a special issue reviewing the work of Canadian Jesuits International over the past year with a “solidarity in partnership” focus. It is available in PDF format here: Mission News, vol. 53, no. 1.
In the cover article, Fr Roberto Jaramillo, President of the Jesuit Conference of Latin America and the Caribbean (CPAL), develops the solidarity in partnership theme by presenting three “X-rays” of three different projects that CJI helps to support in Latin America. His spare, poetic descriptions convey both the stark challenges and social injustices faced by our partners as well as the importance of relationships of mutual solidarity and support for addressing them and making a difference.
In the pages that follow, the newsletter offers an overview of the places where CJI is engaged, the projects it supports, and a financial statement of its operations. The projects section provides a few examples of CJI’s international work in each of the following six areas:
- Education
- Health
- Community Solidarity and Human Rights
- Sustainable Agriculture
- Livelihood Support
- Refugees and Emergency Relief
A seventh area, “Education and Advocacy,” concludes the review of projects by giving a few examples of CJI’s work within Canada through outreach programs, educational events and advocacy campaigns on issues of international development and social justice.
We hope you enjoy the review in this issue. It is really a testament to your generosity, for without your support the work would not be possible. As Jenny Cafiso says in her editorial: “All this was made possible by the active engagement of students, parishioners, Jesuit friends and other Canadians who are committed to solidarity with our brothers and sisters and to building a life of justice and peace.”
If you would like to contribute to the work of CJI highlighted in this issue, please
