Fr David Creamer SJ died suddenly on April 17, 2021, at the age of 74. He was chairperson of CJI’s Board of Trustees from 2014 to 2019 and a strong supporter of its work and mission. He had a deep commitment  to the people India and Darjeeling in particular where he visited regularly. Fr  Dave organized numerous immersion trips for students and educators, especially to Darjeeling, India. Dave also organized exchange programs for teachers between Winnipeg and Darjeeling.

Dave had a strong background in education, particularly in faith development and education for justice. His most evident contributions were in Winnipeg, at St Paul’s High School and the University of Manitoba, both in the classroom and in administration.  He had a commitment to people on the margins,  especially with inmates or ex-inmates, through through his work with Stony Mountain Penitentiary in Manitoba; and helping establish Quixote House in Winnipeg for those who had just been released from prison. Dave’s interests also involved him in other justice and awareness raising projects. He was known for his strong mentoring role in the lives of students and for his creativity in offering programs.

CJI greatly benefited from Dave’s energy and passion.

CJI will miss Fr Creamer’s friendship and keen interest in our work.
