In July 2016, the staff and board of Canadian Jesuits International (CJI) collaborated on a response to Global Affairs Canada (GAC), which requested feedback from the Canadian public as part of its International Assistance Review (IAR).
A pdf of our submission can be viewed here: CJI’s response to Canada’s IAR.
In its response, CJI indicates support for GAC’s focus on working with the poorest and most vulnerable people and also on aligning Canada’s international assistance with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We also articulated our belief that international assistance must work in culturally appropriate ways, in order to ensure that changes we promote take root. Other emphases in our response include strong support for the rights and agency of women and girls; for the role of education in achieving a more peaceful, equitable and just world; and for programs to engage and assist youth.
CJI is grateful for the opportunity it was given to contribute and looks forward to seeing the results of the IAR in GAC’s new policies and initiatives.
