A post-graduate law student in South Africa, Noluthando Honono has been involved in campaigns in her country and in the African continent to ensure that girls and women are not denied their right to education. Honono has participated in the Bakhita Partnership of Education launched by the Jesuit Justice and Ecology Network-Africa, and the student-led Right to Education campaign in South Africa.Recognized as one of South Africa’s leading debaters, Honono also contributes to initiatives of the Jesuit Conference of Africa and Madagascar.

Dr. Lerona Lewis is a professor at the University of Ottawa and will present on the topic of girls' education, within the Canadian context, and the need to increase the learning outcomes and experiences of racialized students in the Canadian education system.

Dr. Evelyn Namakula Mayanja is an assistant professor at Carleton University and is an interdisciplinary scholar passionate about global peace and security, with focus on Africa's natural resource rich nations. Dr. Mayanja will speak on the intersection of girls' education and resource extraction within the Democratic Republic of Congo context.

CJI youth symposium participants pledge to advocate for girls’ education

From meeting with their MPs to advocate for girls’ education in the Global South, to creating podcasts to raise awareness about the issue, participants at Canadian Jesuit International’s (CJI)  Youth for Others Advocacy Symposium shared ideas for action at the end of the gathering. The symposium, now in its third year, was held April 21-23 at Saint Paul University. Read more
