The Jesuit-run Gandhi Ashram School in Kalimpong, India, now has a concert hall, which was partly funded by Canadian Jesuits International (CJI).
On Monday, August 11, Fr. Shajumon Chakkalakkal, SJ, the first provincial of the newly created Province of Darjeeling-Nepal, blessed and inaugurated the long-awaited hall. The 540-seat auditorium has “balanced acoustics and a suitable sound system,” according to Fr. Chakkalakkal’s report to CJI.
“The day was filled with music and celebration as our school orchestra performed for a delighted audience of students, parents, and alumni,” the school wrote in a Facebook post.
CJI contributed $271,022.25 toward the $1.2 million funded by the Jesuit Mission in Germany and other donors.
