Serious new threats against Fr Ismael “Melo” Moreno in Honduras have been made in recent days. They have prompted statements and letters of support for Fr Melo from many people and groups, including the Jesuit Provincials of Canada, the Jesuit Central America Province and the Jesuit Conference of Canada and the United States.
We at Canadian Jesuits International also stand firmly with Fr Melo at this time. CJI is fully supportive of his important work as director of Radio Progreso and ERIC (Reflection, Research and Communication Team). Fr Melo is a courageous advocate for democracy, justice, the environment and the marginalized people of his country. In 2015, he was awarded the Rafto Prize for his work promoting human rights and freedom of expression.
