Last June 25, CJI presented A cry from the Amazon: Indigenous communities threatened by COVID-19, a webinar with Fr Alfredo Ferro SJ, Coordinator for the Jesuit Service for the Pan-Amazon Region(SJPAM) and Anitalia Pijachi, Uitota Indigenous community leader. Fr Alfredo and Anitalia talked about their experiences with marginalized communities in the Amazon who have been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic. Another webinar was held last September 2 with Fr Pascal Xalxo SJ, Director of Human Life Development and Research Centre (HLDRC) and Babita Biswakarma, Program Coordinator of Hayden Hall. Their presentations showed how COVID-19 has exposed systemic inequalities in India. Both webinars demonstrated that overcoming the pandemic and inequality requires raising awareness and working for justice at all levels of society. We would like to thank all the presenters for sharing their knowledge, wisdom and experiences with CJI supporters.
