On Wednesday, 7 November 2018, Canadian Jesuits International (CJI) will host a “Youth for Others (Y4O) – Social Justice Day” in Hamilton, Ontario. It will be held at Mount Mary Retreat Centre in Ancaster (just outside Hamilton).

About 80 students from several Catholic high schools in the Niagara, Hamilton and Halton Regions are expected to participate. They will be exploring how to be “youth for others” — inspired by the former Jesuit Superior General, Fr Pedro Arrupe, who called on us to be “men and women for others.”
The keynote speaker for the day is Fr Mario Serrano, a Jesuit priest from the Dominican Republic and currently the social justice coordinator for the Jesuit Conference of Latin America. Fr Mario has done extensive social justice work with the border communities of Dajabon, Dominican Republic, and Ouanaminthe, Haiti. He will speak on ways to bridge borders, not just physical borders but also borders between people.
During the Y4O Day, Jesuit and lay presenters will lead workshops on topics ranging from health and education, peace and conflict, refugees and migrants, and human rights. They will share their personal experiences from Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, and talk about the inseparable link between faith and justice.
