The 2016 Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice was held in Washington DC from 12 to 14 November. CJI led a delegation of 25 Canadian students and educators from Campion College, Loyola High School, St Bonaventure’s College High School and St Paul’s High School. They joined more than 2,000 other participants from across North America.

This year’s theme was “Mercy in Action.” People were challenged to consider how they could be agents of God’s mercy by acting for justice. The Canadian group had an opportunity to reflect on the meaning of mercy in action by identifying some of the hurt they see in the world, and envisioning a world that they would like to see. Fr Mario Serrano and Josefina Sanchez of the Jesuit Antilles Province also joined the group to share about the social justice work they are engaged in.
The final day, Monday, 14 November, was Advocacy Day. It began with a public witness in support of immigrants and then Teach-In participants divided into smaller groups for different actions. The Canadian students shadowed some of their American counterparts on visits with elected representatives.
