Canadian Jesuits International is calling on your generosity to help provide immediate relief to those affected by the devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake that struck Myanmar March 28.
Funds raised will go to local Jesuit partners in Myanmar who are providing food, water, shelter, hygiene and sanitation, medical supplies and psychosocial support to those most affected by the earthquake.
More than 3,500 people were killed, thousands more are injured or missing, and entire communities have been destroyed by the earthquake. With buildings and homes flattened — in some towns up to 80% of structures have been completely destroyed — the situation is catastrophic.
This disaster comes at a time when Myanmar is already suffering, with more than 3.5 million people displaced due to political violence, economic collapse and recent flooding. The earthquake has only added to the pain and hardship the people of Myanmar are enduring.
Our Jesuit partners, who have worked in the area for many years and mostly come from the local community, are working hard to provide help and make people feel hopeful again.
As one local Jesuit put it: “The situation is dire and the suffering is unimaginable. The people of Myanmar have faced relentless challenges in recent years, and this disaster has only compounded their hardship. Yet, amid the darkness, your love shines through. With your continued solidarity—through prayers, awareness, and aid—we can bring light to these shadows.”
Thank you for your generosity and solidarity.
