On October 9, 66 people celebrated Canadian Jesuits International’s (CJI) 70th anniversary via Zoom, reflecting on its history and future work to support the poor and marginalized in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

Speakers highlighted the positive impact of CJI’s partnership with Jesuits and lay people whose work includes providing education to rural children and youth, advocacy for human rights and peacebuilding, promoting integral ecology and sustainability in farms and schools, strengthening Indigenous leadership, and support for refugees.

Despite growing challenges such as war, climate change, and aid cuts, speakers, including the Provincial of the Jesuits of Canada, Fr. Jeffrey Burwell, SJ, stressed hope rooted in concrete actions and solidarity. They called for deep reflection and creativity to respond to global crises, emphasizing that compassion and community persist despite hardships.
