St. Mary’s School, which serves students from the Indigenous Khasi tribe in the rural village of Meweit, India, now has four laptops, an LED projector and a screen, thanks to support from Canadian Jesuits International.
“These have been great blessings. They have been very helpful in making classes interesting and visually engaging,” said Fr. Gabriel Kharluni, SJ, school principal. “The teachers have access to them during classes and seminars.”
The request for these teaching aides had been made by the Kohima Region of the Society of Jesus, a CJI partner.
The school has 883 students, most of whom come from “socio-economically disadvantaged families,” said Fr. Kharluni. Of these, 343 students are female, and 540 are Catholic.
“Our fees are low to make the school affordable to all, and as a result, our school is unable to acquire more modern tools that can facilitate classroom learning,” he added.
