Effective action for social justice and structural change requires collaboration across many sectors and institutions, according to Fr. Roberto Jaramillo, SJ, Secretary of the Social Justice and Ecology Secretariat at the Jesuit curia in Rome.
Speaking at an event organized by Canadian Jesuits International (CJI) in Toronto on April 30, Fr. Jaramillo said that advocacy must remain grounded in lived experience. One cannot truly raise awareness “if you do not know the conditions of the people…if you have not visited their [homes],” he said. Fr. Jaramillo was in Toronto to deliver a lecture at Regis College. CJI took the opportunity of his visit to organize an event for CJI supporters.
Fr. Jaramillo also discussed the mission and structure of the Global Ignatian Advocacy Network (GIAN), a Jesuit initiative to address major global challenges through collaboration, advocacy, and discernment. Read more: bit.ly/43mZwdg
