Donovan Martin, during one of Canadian Jesuits International's Youth for Others Advocacy Symposium in Ottawa.

By Donovan Martin

In the fall of my grade 10 year, Canadian Jesuits International (CJI) informed my school’s human rights club about its Youth for Others Advocacy Symposium in Ottawa. Curious about how I could make a difference in the world (and not wanting to pass up a trip to the nation’s capital), I attended. Five years later, I am still excited to participate, organize, and engage in CJI activities.

The Jesuit commitment to care for our common home resonates with me. Hearing the stories of climate activism in the Global South and advocacy in Canada inspired me to become an environmental scientist. Making youth aware of injustices and how to address them creates a better future. Joining CJI provides both. I encourage everyone to volunteer and learn what they can do to make our home a better place.
