Canadian Jesuits International supports a new project by the Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflection (JCTR) in Zambia, which aims to strengthen the capacity of local citizens to advocate for good governance, transparency, and servant leadership at various government levels.  

The project will conduct awareness raising workshops and advocacy training programs to increase awareness of Catholic Social Teaching and human rights-based approach to development among communities. It will also establish inclusive dialogue platforms between communities and governments. It expects to train 300 individuals across seven parishes on key social accountability tools (social audits, community scorecards, interface meeting engagement and presentation), and conduct at least 14 community-led social accountability actions.

Activities

  • Develop a training manual on Catholic Social Teaching (CST), Social Accountability, Advocacy and Human Rights
  • Conduct training of trainers from targeted deaneries
  • Produce materials on CST; economic, social and cultural rights, community participation
  • Develop and produce accountability charters
  • Awareness raising programs on human rights, advocacy, social accountability and CST
  • Training of parish groups
  • Facilitiate interface meetings between parish groups and local authorities
  • Facilitate pro-poorbudget analysis with selected MPs, community members and ministries
  • Facilitiate joint monitoring visits with community members and civic leaders  to target community projects to assess their progress
